Cannabis Law Today, Stigmas and Psychedelics a first look at the Cannalaw Summit
The rate at which the cannabis industry is changing and growing is unparalleled.
Since announcing the Cannalaw Summit on January 21st these are just a sample of some of the stories and significant events that have taken place in cannabis:
- New Jersey and Virginia became the newest states to move forward with legalization
- Washington lawmakers approved decriminalization
- Leafly reported the US Cannabis Industry added 77,300 Jobs in 2020
- GW Pharma was acquired by Jazz Pharmaceuticals in the largest M&A deal to date - $7.2 billion
And just this week Seth Rogan announced Houseplant, while Jay-Z attacked the war on drugs through ad campaigns for his MONOGRAM brand.
The rate at which the cannabis industry is evolving and growing is unparalleled.
However, as more states come online, and as acceptance grows so do the legal issues.
Lawyers from across the profession who serve the cannabis industry, regardless of whether they are solo practitioners or cannabis practice leaders at a top ten firm - all face the same federal, state, banking, ethical, stigma, diversity, and equity challenges.
The Cannalaw Summit (May 4th-6th) will bring the legal profession and the cannabis supply chain together to address the complexity of these challenges head-on.
Over the course of three days, attendees will get the opportunity to hear from a diverse speaking faculty covering the most pertinent issues the profession faces.
Day one of the event opens with a deep look at Cannabis Law Today, with Jonathan Robbins, Chair, Cannabis Practice at Akerman, Katy Young, Managing Partner at the Ad Astra Law Group and the current President of the National Cannabis Bar Association, and Omar Figueroa, Partner and Founder, Law Offices of Omar Figueroa.
This opening discussion will focus on pivotal moments in cannabis law in 2020, what this will mean for cannabis in 2021, what's next, and how the effects of a pandemic and new administration will shape the industry moving forwards.
Baker and McKenzie partner Tom Firestone opens day 2. He will discuss how he made the transition from U.S.-Russian law enforcement cooperation to cannabis law and the stigmas, reputation risks, and roadblocks that have been addressed along the way.
The final day of the Cannalaw Summit kicks off with Psychedelics.
Nicole Howell, Partner, Clark Howell is joined by Kathryn Tucker, Special Counsel, Emerge Law Group, and Hadas Alterman, Founding Partner, Plant Medicine Law Group as they look at removing barriers to access through legalization & litigation.
