Entering her 27th year as an attorney, meet Yvette McDowell. With life experience including careers as a firefighter-paramedic, a City Prosecutor, a trial attorney and more recently a Cannabis Law Consultant, Yvette has always pursued a pathway of service exemplified by a long-standing commitment to the betterment of community guided by respect and justice. This was demonstrated when she won an Emmy for the creative concept of a documentary based on a community program she coordinated as a prosecutor.
Yvette brings those guiding principles to the cannabis industry through her focus on social justice through social equity since 2017. Yvette McDowell serves on CCIA's Board of Directors (recently re-elected to a second term) and currently co chairs CCIA's Diversity, Inclusion and Social Equity Committee (DISE). Under Yvette's leadership, the DISE Committee produced a Preferred Language Document which seeks to provide alternative language to common terms used in the industry that are racially divisive.
This
Preferred Language Document
has been endorsed by Los Angeles Bar Association's Cannabis Division. Yvette currently serves and has served as a member of the California District Attorneys Association, California Cannabis Industry Assn, International Cannabis Bar Association where she co-chairs the Social Equity Committee, a Southern California speaker for the Law Enforcement Action Partnership (LEAP), California Peace Officers Association, Minority Cannabis Business Association, Women Leaders in Law Enforcement, and the Los Angeles Cannabis Bar Association where she serves as chair of the newly formed Social Equity Committee and an executive committee member.
